My Peri-Face Blues: Managing perimenopause acne with clean beauty and boss-level energy.

I'm bringing botanicals and boldness to the party.

I've been told many times that I do not look like my age.

And if you're a Gen X/ xennial like me, you understand; you get that comment as well.

Maybe it was the sun up to sundown meanderings as a child, limited TV exposure, having to adult ourselves before officially adulting, and that hose - possibly holy - water, that keeps us youngin' all through life.

But no matter how young we look, perimenopause/menopause is undeniable. The symptoms of these two like to gang up on you like you just hit someone in the back with a tennis ball while playing 'wall ball' (if you know, you know).

Along with the lovely, lovely symptoms of night sweats, weight gain, brain fog, mood swings, there is the acne. Doesn't matter if you haven't had a break out since your teen years. Pimples will take up residency on your face for so long they might as well pay rent.

And we all know why this is happening. Hormones.

Can't live with them, hard to balance them. And if you've read my earlier blogs, I shared my own battle with hormonal acne that hit me hard at 46 - and has had a hold on my face ever since. Coming on so late in the game, after clearing up my skin, me falling in love with my skin, working hard on my skin, the breakout hit me like sucker punch. I was not ready for the emotional rollercoaster it put me on or the confidence hit it left me struggling to revive.

In the midst of my 2025 acne outbreak. It only got worse from here.

But my experience comes with a rainbow, and I'm here to share the good news: you can support your skin - and in turn, your emotional health - with the right products that embrace the beauty of botanicals and care rituals.

But first, to solve the problem you must understand the cause of the problem. So let's tackle this question:

🌀 What’s Actually Happening to Y(our) Skin?

Late perimenopause is like the storm before the still. Your body is winding down reproductive hormones, but not always gently.

1. Estrogen is leaving the party… but testosterone’s still dancing.

As estrogen drops, androgens like testosterone can take center stage. This causes your skin’s oil glands to rev up production — hello, shiny t-zone, clogged pores, and chin breakouts.

2. Skin is drier but still breaking out (how rude).

Less estrogen = less natural moisture + slower skin renewal. You’re left with dull, flaky skin that somehow still breaks out. Traditional acne products may feel too harsh — you need balance, not a battle.

3. Cortisol’s not helping.

Midlife often brings stress, sleep disruptions, night sweats — and that can lead to more cortisol in your system. Cortisol is a known inflammation trigger that can show up on your skin as flare-ups, irritation, or acne.

I've always said that what is going on inside our bodies will show up on our face and indeed, when it comes to the perimenopause acne, our face is telling a story. (And, sometimes, that story falls into the category of "I wish I was making this stuff up." )

But what have I done to gently get a handle on my skin?

Well, three months after the "Acne Outbreak of 2025", my skin is glowing so hard. The blemishes from the break out are fading beautifully. Unfortunately, my skin still pops out a pimple on my cheek about once a week. But the milia (small, hard, sebum-filled pimples that usually occur after a severe acne outbreak) has diminished significantly. I am very proud of how my skin has transitioned from blemished and broken to happy and healing. And all thanks to these botanical beauties that I use consistently:

I absolutely love the gentle nature of this Wild Tea Cleanse!

I still need to use my LYONYS Beauty Powder to even my skin tone but I've noticed that I don't need to use as much - as each week goes by, I use less and less.

💬 Real Talk: You’re Not Alone in This Perimenopause Battle

Let's keep it real, right? Perimenopause skin can be confusing — dry one week, oily the next, breaking out when all you did was breathe. But this phase isn’t a punishment on you. You've endured the trials and stressors of life for this long so that is your flex. It’s an invitation to prove your power of understanding and allow your skin to grow and glow up.

I'd like to extend an invitation - an invitation that I personally have accepted - to go deeper into your own radiance, to honor your changing skin, and to simplify what you use. I know, I know, the 'clean beauty' label has been slapped around so much that the meaning is becoming muddled. But I'm inviting you to dig deep into the ingredients my LYONYS line uses. Because clean doesn’t mean complicated. It should mean wild, powerful, honest, and earth-born.

Let your skin care rituals reflect that. 🌿🍵✨
